The Graphic Sex Project

A participatory art installation to get people talking about sex

The first thing you notice is hundreds of pictures of cubes arranged so many different ways.

Then the words begin to pop out: kissing, oral, touching, fingering, orgasm. These aren't quite like any "graph" you've ever seen. Here you can explore the wondrous variety of the human sexual experience represented in carefully arranged colored cubes.

Then you notice the table. The bowls of cubes. The white boards. It becomes clear what is going on here. You sit down and get to work.

Welcome to the Graphic Sex Project, where people use cubes to describe what happens in their ideal sexual experience, and then share that a partner as a way to open up conversations about preferences, desires, boundaries.

And if they choose, to share anonymously with YOU.

It started in a Women's Discussion group call Women Uncorked, organized by Jennifer Beman to give people who identify as women a safe place to talk about all things related to sex. Jennifer created this activity of using cubes to stand for all the different parts of a good sexual experience, then arranging them in patterns to make a visualized "sexual script."

Seeing how much women got out of this simple yet powerful exercise, Jennifer expanded it into an event.

The Graphic Sex Project is a playful, thought-provoking installation that invites people to talk about sex without pressure, performance, or embarrassment.

The display and the bowls of cubes draws people in. It opens the door to conversations about preferences, boundaries, curiosity, and desires — often with laughter as the icebreaker.

Perfect for festivals, conferences, campuses, and community gatherings, the installation creates a welcoming, inclusive space where sexual diversity is acknowledged and respected, and where listening is just as important as speaking.

The result? Better communication, deeper mutual understanding, and a shared appreciation for the many ways people experience desire, sexuality, and connection.
